You want to learn from and work with a talented central office.

Here’s your chance to work in a major turnaround effort with a talented and hardworking central office staff. You’ll have opportunities to hear some of them speak, and you’ll work everyday with people, like you, who want to help the children of DC.

You are looking for an organized program that invests in its interns.

UELIP invites between 50 and 75 junior and senior associates a semester. This enables us to provide a wide variety of development opportunities that add layers upon layers to the associate experience. We value you and your development, and we believe it is our responsibility to help you along that path.

The ideal applicant:

• Is interested in education reform
• Executes work with a “whatever it takes” mentality
• Demonstrates experience or interest in education
• Has a strong academic record
• Exhibits excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
• Exhibits organizational skills that promote working independently and creatively to solve problems
• Is comfortable working under ambiguous or quickly changing parameters

Fall and Spring Term applicants must be able to work 15-20 hours per week.

Summer applicants must be able to work full-time during the summer, which is a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Think you have what it takes? Then we want you!

Required application materials:

• Updated résumé
• Single page cover letter
• Writing sample: This can be a school term paper, a work-related paper, or an essay you wrote for a recent school application. Ideally, it should be related to education policy, but this is not required. The sample should be 300-500 words.
• Two essays (each 300-500 words):
  1. Why do you want to be a UELIP associate? What skills/expertise do you bring to this internship?
  2. In your opinion, what is the Chancellor's greatest challenge in leading the DC Public Schools and what advice do you have for her to resolve it?
