Over the next three years, DCPS will move towards the adoption of the Common Core State Standards, or ‘Common Core’, a set of national academic standards that outlines overall expectations for students grades K through 12.

These new standards were created in an effort to ensure that all students are college and career ready by the end of high school.

This upcoming school year, DCPS will implement the new Common Core for English Language Arts in all K through 12 classrooms.

In an effort to align these new standards with how students are evaluated each advisory period, DCPS has begun to revise the student Report Cards for Kindergarten through Grade 5. Report Cards in Grade 6 through 12 will also align to the Common Core and all other subject areas will remain the same through the 2011-2012 school year.

DCPS is soliciting teacher and parent input about the newly revised Report Cards for the upcoming year. Take a look at the Report Cards and let us know your response!

We have created two example report cards, one for Kindergarten and one for 5th Grade. The skills listed under English Language Arts directly correlate to the Common Core Standards.

Please review both of the updated Report Cards and fill in the following Survey.[Survey closed]
