Letter from Kaya Henderson on Being Named Acting Chancellor

Press Statement

Kaya Henderson, Acting Chancellor I am very excited that Mayor Gray has offered me the opportunity to be Acting Chancellor of DC Public Schools. I have devoted the past 13 years to working to improve educational opportunities for students in this city.

I am honored and humbled to be afforded the opportunity to continue this work in the role of Acting Chancellor. I have learned a great deal over the past four months as Interim Chancellor. I have had the opportunity to engage deeply with students, teachers and community members and to work with Council Members as we struggled with difficult decisions.

Most importantly, I have had the chance to work with Mayor Gray. I have consistently been impressed with his commitment to education reform and with his thoughtful approach to challenges.

I look forward to continuing to work with Mayor Gray to make the critical decisions needed to ensure that DCPS becomes a first class school district. Our children deserve nothing less.
