In school year 2010-11, DCPS instituted two food service pilot programs operating in 14 schools.  These pilots were extended for the 2011-12 school year with changes made to the pilot school configuration.

Revolution Foods’ Portable Meals Pilot

Revolution Foods provides 7 DCPS schools with limited kitchen facilities or facilities challenges with nutritious, appetizing portable meals produced daily at their facility in Cheverly, Maryland.  Launched in 2009, Revolution Foods’ is passionate about serving students fresh, high-quality food and providing educational opportunities to support informed decision making.  

Revolution Foods Pilot Schools, 2011-12: Amidon-Bowen Elementary School, Anacostia High School, Hearst Elementary School, Payne Elementary School, Peabody Elementary School, Powell Elementary School, and Tyler Elementary School

DC Central Kitchens’ From-Scratch Meals Pilot

DC Central Kitchen’s Fresh Start Catering operation provides 7 DCPS schools with meals made from-scratch in their Kelly Miller Middle School production kitchen or on-site at the school. DC Central Kitchen is a well-known DC nonprofit that provides at-risk individuals with culinary job training and produces and distributes meals to shelters, transitional homes, and rehabilitation clinics throughout the DC area.

DC Central Kitchen is passionate about serving students seasonal, locally-grown foods and cultivating food appreciation by serving innovative, from-scratch meals.

 DC Central Kitchen Pilot Schools, 2011-12:  Aiton Elementary School, Burrville Elementary School, Deal Middle School, Kelly Miller Middle School, Kenilworth Elementary School, Thomas Elementary School, and Walker Jones Education Campus
