District of Columbia Collaborative for Change (DC3)

A Citywide Cluster of Like-Minded Elementary Schools

Bookmark and Share

The District of Columbia Collaborative for Change (DC3) was formed when 10 principals came together with the purpose of creating a citywide cluster of like-minded elementary schools. These schools--though they are located in different parts of the city and face different kinds of challenges--opted to share material and intellectual resources.

About DC3
The DC3 members work as a team, with the goal of offering high quality instruction and increasing leadership capacity throughout the 10 elementary schools, resulting in improved educational opportunity for all students. As a means of facilitating this exchange, these schools receive some autonomy from Central Office policies.

The Goals of DC3

  • Improve teaching practices
  • Improve leadership capacity across the schools
  • Increase teacher retention within the DC3
  • Enhance equity among DCPS schools
  • Improve student achievement throughout the district and city-wide

DC3 Schools and Students
For students at DC3 schools, this approach translates into an innovative curricula based in experiential learning.

Students are encouraged to make good choices by engaging with a behavior management system that focuses on reflecting on choices and modeling of sound decision-making by staff and other students.

The goal is to create a supportive and challenging environment that meets the academic and emotional needs of all students.
