Master EducatorsWhat is the Master Educator Program? The Master Educator Program is one component of the IMPACT assessment system and was developed in response to feedback from DCPS teachers. In over 50 focus groups held during the 2008-2009 school year, DCPS teachers consistently expressed their desire to be evaluated by an objective content expert in addition to being evaluated by their administrators. The program was launched in the fall of 2009 with 31 master educators and has expanded this year to include 41. Each teacher will be observed twice by a master educator over the course of the school year. What is a master educator? Master educators are expert practitioners who serve as impartial evaluators, conducting observations without any knowledge of the IMPACT scores that teachers receive from their administrators. Master educators have undergone rigorous training on the Teaching and Learning Framework rubric and only observe teachers in their particular area of expertise. How do master educators support teachers? Following each observation, teachers will meet one-on-one with their master educator to discuss strengths and areas for improvement. Currently, we are seeking master educators in Health/Physical Education, English as a Second Language and Early Childhood for the 2011-2012 school year. We will post our new application for the 2012-2013 school year in late fall 2011. Please check back at that time to apply. Any mid-year position openings will be posted in the Central Office section.
