Only residents of the District of Columbia are eligible to receive a free public education in the District. Consequently, all public school students in the District are required to provide proof of their residency in the District or pay tuition.
The current Residency Verification Rules are designed to ensure that only those students who are District residents attend public schools in the District tuition-free.
