Inspirational and Motivational: Renowned Women Join First Lady to Serve as Mentors for DC Teens
March 31, 2011
Before they became leaders in their respective careers, the 20 accomplished women who joined first lady Michelle Obama on Wednesday for mentoring sessions at three DCPS high schools shared one common trait: They were all girls with hopes and dreams for success in life.
As part of Women’s History Month, these renowned women – representing diverse professions, from astronauts to athletes and actors – visited DC-area schools, including Ballou, Woodson and Eastern senior high schools, to inspire, motivate and mentor a generation of students to persevere in pursuit of their dreams.
Mentors on hand this week in DC include the following:
Ballou Senior High School: First lady Michelle Obama
Eastern Senior High School: Actor Hilary Swank; playwright and professor Anna Deveare Smith; Grammy Award-winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari; Olympic gold medalist and WNBA player Lisa Leslie.
Woodson Senior High School: Actor Rashida Jones; Gen. Dana Born; Olympic gold medalist Dominique Dawes; Lifetime Networks Senior Vice President of Series Programming and Development Nina Lederman.
