Grade configuration changes, new schools, and schools moving

Important changes for next school year (as of 3/1/12)

A number of DC Public Schools will undergo important changes next year including grade configurations.

Grade configuration changes

The following schools will be gaining or losing grades for the 2012-2013 school year. 

School Location Grade configuration
Barnard 430 Decatur St. NW PS-5th grade (gaining 5th grade)
Eastern High School 1700 East Capitol St NE 9th graders and first time 10th graders
Jefferson Middle School Academy 801 7th Street SW 6th – 7th (gaining 7th)
Jefferson Middle School 801 7th Street SW 8th grade only
MacFarland Middle School 4400 Iowa Ave. NW 6-8th grade (losing 5th grade)
Powell Elementary School 1350 Upshur Street NW PS-5th grade (gaining 5th grade)
School-Within-School Logan - Annex Building (215 G Street NE) PK – 1st (gaining 1st grade)

Feeder Pattern Changes

The following schools will be changing feeder pattern for the 2012-2013 school year. 

School Will now feed
Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan Stuart-Hobson MS* or Eliot-Hine MS (family choice)

*Only students entering 6th grade in SY12-13 and SY13-14 will have Stuart-Hobson as a feeder school option.

New schools opening

School-Within-School will be moving to the Logan Annex (215 G Street NE) in SY12-13. They will temporarily be housed in the Annex building (entrance on 2nd Street NE) for two years (through SY13-14). A permanent home has not yet been identified.

The following schools will be moving from swing space to their new or modernized school building.

Proposed Closings

In December 2010, DCPS submitted a proposal to close River Terrace Elementary School. Over the following year, DCPS gathered feedback from all stakeholders and held a community meeting at River Terrace ES.  DCPS has recommended closing River Terrace at the end of the SY2011-12 school year.
