Burroughs Elementary School

Tia Corniel is the new principal at Burroughs Elementary School for School Year 2016-2017. She brings to her school a passion and conviction to serve on behalf of children while supporting staff towards sustained growth and development. Corniel became a founding teacher at Albany Leadership Charter School for Girls in 2010, the first all-girls public charter high school in New York. In 2014, she became the principal of Brighter Choice Charter Elementary School for Girls in Albany, NY. Corniel began her career as a Teach for America corps member teaching middle school math and science in Phoenix, AZ. She holds a bachelor’s degree in linguistics from The University at Albany, a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Phoenix, and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.
