Amidon-Bowen Elementary School

TaMikka Sykes is the new principal at Amidon-Bowen Elementary School for School Year 2016-2017. Sykes has taught in Washington, DC schools for nine years and currently serves as the founding principal of LEARN Charter School, Campus Seven, an elementary school in Chicago. As a school leader, she is committed to listening to the voices of all stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, and community members. She also honed her leadership skills and passion for educational equality as a 2016 Surge Institute Fellow. Sykes began her career as a 2nd grade teacher in Compton, CA with Teach for America. She holds a bachelor’s degree in human communication studies from Howard University and a master’s degree in school leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
