Dr. Jane Spence began her career as a high school English teacher in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1998, she relocated to Maryland, where she taught advanced placement and freshman English at Forestville High School. She spent the next ten years in school leadership, as both an assistant principal and principal. Notably, while serving as the principal of Bowie High School, she was honored as Maryland’s 2011 High School Principal of the Year. In her thirteen-year tenure as a leader in Prince George’s County Public Schools, Dr. Spence served as a high school principal supervisor, an instructional supervisor for school leadership development, and an instructional supervisor for employee evaluation. Jane received her bachelor’s in English education from Florida State University, her master’s in educational administration from New York University, and her doctorate of education in school system leadership from the University of Maryland.
