To prepare for enrollment, please make sure your children are up-to-date with student health forms and immunizations.

Medications at School

If your child needs to take medication or receive a medical treatment during school hours, please have your medical provider complete the appropriate forms and submit them to your school nurse.

Mental Health Support

Coordinates a comprehensive mental health program that includes working with:

  • School-based social workers
  • Department of Mental Health
  • DC Start

New Heights

Provides support for pregnant and parenting students:

  • The program helps these students transition from adolescence to adulthood, and from school to higher education and/or work.
  • Students can receive academic support, vocational and technology training, job skills, job placement assistance, parenting workshops, childcare and counseling.
  • To participate in New Heights, the student must be a DC resident or have a parent/guardian who is a DC resident, be a parent or soon-to-be a parent (male or female) and be age 20 or younger.

Health and Physical Education Curriculum

  • About: The Health and Physical Education Curriculum is an integral part of the total education process.  It provides a framework in which the student can develop physically, mentally, socially and emotionally.
  • Five Core Areas:
    • Alcohol, drugs and tobacco
    • HIV/AIDS and sexuality
    • Nutrition
    • Safety
    • Physical activity
  • Pacing Guide: The health and physical education pacing guide is a living document created to identify essential grade-appropriate standards, develop a timeline for the teaching of the standards and provide a framework to support student success in assessments and student learning.
  • Student Wellness and Nutrition: Learn more about the Local Wellness Policy

 

Professional Development

  • Training for health and physical education teachers on effective instruction
  • Certification training for school staff on the administration of medication

Other Health Programs

  • School Nursing Program
  • Substance abuse initiatives
  • Parent workshops on a variety of topics, including sexuality, nutrition and immunizations
