DC Public Schools Provide Families with Free Uber Rides to Select Summer Meal Sites

Thursday, July 15, 2021

(Washington, DC) — Starting this week, DC Public Schools (DCPS) families can get free rides to select school summer meal sites with Uber vouchers. From now through August 27, DCPS will cover the cost of rides to and from eight meal sites across the District. Families will receive information from DCPS directly about how they can redeem their free Uber ride vouchers.

DCPS Food and Nutrition Services, with the support of community partners such as Martha’s Table, DC Central Kitchen, and Capitol Area Food Bank, provides “grab-and-go” meals for youth as well as grocery distribution for families at nearly 40 schools around the District. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, DCPS meal sites have provided more than 1.5 million meals to students and youth.

“DCPS prioritizes the well-being of our students,” said DCPS Chancellor Lewis Ferebee. “By providing free transportation for District families to grab-and-go meal distribution locations, we’re ensuring every child has food on the table and one less obstacle on their way to their academic success.”

Uber ride credits can be redeemed on rides to the following eight DCPS summer meal sites that are in operation Monday through Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. If a family needs support in scheduling an Uber ride to a DCPS summer meal site or has any questions, they can email [email protected].
