River Terrace
River Terrace Education Campus (RTEC) is a state-of-the-art school designed to serve students who need high levels of support and to be accessible for all students. The facilities and resources at River Terrace are specially designed for students with both intellectual disabilities and complex medical needs. Each classroom provides a safe and structured learning environment with an emphasis on sensory experience and instruction. Each class in RTEC is staffed with a certified special education teacher and a paraprofessional who are trained to meet the unique needs of students. Staff at RTEC are also available to help students develop independent living and career skills in order to prepare them for the transition to post-secondary life.

Non-Public Special Education Schools
If DCPS is unable to meet your child’s special education needs, they may be referred to a Non-Public Special Education school. This happens as a result of an IEP team decision, and the process is completed in conjunction with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). Below is a link to DCPS’ Annual Reference Guide for Non-Public Schools. If you have any questions about Non-Public placements, please contact Non-Public Director Josh Wayne at [email protected].
