EcoRise Youth Innovations

School-based K-12 curriculum & grant programs empower youth to tackle real-world challenges in their schools and communities by teaching environmental literacy, social innovation, and hands-on design skills.

Last year, student projects funded by EcoRise micro-grants saved 190,054 gallons of water and 10,435,734 kilowatt hours of energy, and diverted 30,106 pounds of waste from the landfill! Student-led projects ranged from vegetable gardens and rainwater harvesting systems, to battery drives, solar-charging stations, and low flow faucets.

EcoRise currently serves teachers at several DCPS schools including Tubman ES and Phelps ACE HS through an EPA grant.

DC greens uses existing infrastructure and leverages partnerships to provide support for teachers looking to infuse food systems education into their curriculum, whether that’s in the garden, kitchen or traditional classroom.
