Brian M. Walton joins the master educator team with fourteen years of experience teaching and leading in elementary and middle schools in both Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties in Maryland, and having served as an instructor at the University of Maryland, College Park.
A native Washingtonian, Brian has an extensive track record of increasing academic achievement among at-risk students, and has been recognized with numerous honors including: being selected as a 2007 Fulbright-Hays Fellow to conduct educational research in Ghana, West Africa; and being nominated for 2010 Teacher of the Year in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
During his teaching career, Brian has served as Grade Level Chair, English Department Chair, and most recently as a Team Leader and Instructional Council member in Montgomery County Public Schools where he was nominated by his peers for the 2015 Outstanding Leadership Award and the 2015 Most Hopeful Teacher Award.
Brian has also facilitated numerous professional development workshops for administrators and teachers, as well as parent workshops on study skills, and college readiness. In 2008 and 2009, Brian worked with members of the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) to present the Explicit Teaching Model within Prince George’s County Public Schools.
Brian also believes in giving back to his community, and has served as a coordinator for the Institute for Building Men (IBM) Mentoring Program, which is an after school program providing academic support, character education, and authentic learning experiences for at-risk students.
Brian earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction-Teacher Leadership from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Brian will be serving as an Elementary Master Educator.
