
Smothers Elementary School
Dr. Courtney Anderson March began her education career with DCPS back in 2012 and currently serves as assistant principal of C.W. Harris Elementary School. Prior to joining C.W. Harris, Dr. March was the academic dean and social studies professional development leader at Kelly Miller Middle School for six years.
In her role at C.W. Harris, Dr. March led targeted interventions, including the school’s Culture of Love of Reading (C.O.L.O.R.) program, that resulted in the literacy department surpassing pre-pandemic proficiency and a 59% increase in Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) scores. She also spearheaded efforts that led to a 14% boost in students’ sense of belonging. In 2024, Dr. March was accepted into the DCPS Assistant Principal’s School Leader Lab cohort, further strengthening her pursuit of equity and school leadership. Dr. March is driven by her desire to ensure that students are provided with love, a quality education, and access to experiences that reach beyond their communities.
Dr. March holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Norfolk State University, a Master of Science in School Administration from Trinity Washington University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Liberty University.
