Daniel Shea

Daniel Shea, DCPS Instructional Superintendent, Cluster VII

Daniel Shea is the Instructional Superintendent for Cluster VII, where he supports principals and staff in high schools.

Professional Experience

Mr. Shea entered the education field immediately after graduating from Georgetown University. He spent seven years teaching English at the junior high and middle school levels; eight years as an assistant principal at the high school level; six years as a middle school principal; and ten years as a high school principal. In sum, Mr. Shea has 31 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in Montgomery County, Maryland. 

Mr. Shea’s experiences in high schools were focused on building schools that provided strong student achievement results, high levels of support, accelerated courses, competitive athletic programs, and wonderful music and arts programs.  

After retiring as a high school principal, he spent two and a half years training future education leaders as a leadership coach with the New Leaders of New Schools program. Following a brief stint as the acting director of counseling services in Montgomery County, Mr. Shea joined DCPS as the Manager of Scheduling within the Office of Secondary School Transformation. He most recently has served as the interim principal of Hardy Middle School. 

Education

Mr. Shea holds a master’s degree from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University.

Cluster VIII includes Anacostia SHS, Ballou SHS, Ballou STAY, Cardozo SHS, Ellington School of the Arts, Incarcerated Youth Program, McKinley Technology SHS, Phelps SHS, Washington Metropolitan, Wilson SHS and Youth Services Center.
