Erynn O'Mahen Viianen

After 12 years working as teacher and elementary literacy coordinator in Chicago Public Schools, Erynn moved to Virginia and started the next part of her career working for DCPS. She was a reading specialist for a charter school in DCPS and worked as a coordinator for the Office of Specialized Instruction.

Erynn’s passion for education is genetic – both her parents were teachers and supported her as she graduated from Indiana University and moved to Chicago to begin her teaching career. She taught elementary school and coached after school sports for middle school students. Erynn served as her grade-level chair and as a representative on the instructional leadership team. After teaching, she worked as an administrator, Master Teacher, for a charter school district. When she completed her Master’s degree, she began working for a turnaround organization within Chicago Public Schools. Erynn worked with teachers and consultants to write network literacy pacing guides that supported the Common Core State Standards. During that time, she also led literacy design team meetings and professional learning communities that supported cross-disciplinary literacy across twenty-five schools.

Erynn earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from Indiana University-Bloomington and a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University in Chicago.

Erynn will be serving as a Master Educator for Elementary and Special Education.
