Kara Chamberlaine says starting 9th grade at McKinley Technology High School was a difficult adjustment. “I was really excited by just doing okay, but my teachers kept me in check. I wanted to show them that I could get a perfect GPA.” Now she’s heading to Dartmouth College next year, a decision Kara said she made based on the college’s access to global studies. She plans to study chemistry and minor in philosophy, and is looking forward to going to a small school where she knows everyone and feels like part of a community. Kara feels prepared for her next chapter because McKinley Tech “wants its students to achieve a higher level of excellence” and because she’s learned how to balance her time to get everything done. And she has certainly had a lot to balance – outside of class, Kara participated in Global Kids, Ethical Debating, Student Government, the Aspen Challenge, and she even teaches STEM to kids through the Urban Alliance. “Being at McKinley has helped me achieve that higher standard.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
