Kelley Albert is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This is her second year with DCPS as a Master Educator. Kelley earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Administration and Supervision from Southern University A&M College in 2002 and 2005. In 2009, she completed an Educational Specialist degree in Reading from Louisiana State University.
During her twelve year tenure with East Baton Rouge Parish School District, Kelley has worked as a classroom teacher, Literacy Coach, and an Instructional/Data Specialist. While in the classroom, she worked with elementary grades in all subject areas. Her passion, dedication, and expertise were noted by her colleagues. In 2004 and 2008, she was selected as Teacher of the Year on her school campus. This honor elevated her to the next level in her profession. In 2009, she decided to make a greater impact on student achievement by stepping into a leadership role as a Literacy Coach and in 2010 as an Instructional/Data Specialist. In these roles, one of the duties she enjoyed the most was mentoring and coaching novice and veteran teachers in the areas of Instruction and Classroom Management. She fostered professional relationships with and between teachers and implemented substantive conversations among teachers during observation conferences which promoted teacher inquiry and problem solving. Other duties included supervising grade/data level meetings, evaluating teachers using Louisiana’s evaluation tool (COMPASS) and chairing various committees such as the School Improvement Team.
Kelley also worked with Teach Baton Rouge, an alternative certification program in East Baton Rouge Parish. She served as a Fellow Advisor and an Institute Director where she planned and facilitated content seminars and supervised the practice teaching of first year teachers through informal and formal observations during the Summer Institute. She also was an integral part in planning and implementing an effective structure and curriculum that prepared participants to enter the classrooms in the fall.
Kelley enjoys giving back by being a member of various community organizations. One project she is proud to have been a part of was a program called D.R.E.A.M. (Deltas Reaching and Exposing Achievers to More). From 2009-2013, she chaired this local afterschool program where the focus was on preparing fifth grade students for transition to middle school. The students enjoyed fun engaging activities geared toward healthy eating, making wise choices, and social etiquette. This program was a great success and reduced the number of behavior referrals over the four year period.
Kelley will be serving as an Elementary Master Educator.
