Dunbar High School

Latisha Coleman is a seasoned educator with over 25 years of experience in Washington, DC, where she has served as a principal, assistant principal, instructional coach, and a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation teaching fellow.  

Within DCPS, Ms. Coleman most recently served as principal of DCPS' Johnson Middle School, leading the school through meaningful academic and cultural progress. Under Ms. Coleman's leadership, the school ranked in the 99th percentile on the DCPS panorama survey for the Loved, Challenged, and Prepared Index and received an EmpowerK12 Honorable Mention for narrowing the achievement gap in English Language Arts (ELA) testing scores. Prior to leading Johnson, she was Director of Redesign and assistant principal at Anacostia High School, where she contributed to substantial gains in ELA performance and helped launch project-based learning, career academies, and the Dream Team initiative. 

Ms. Coleman holds a bachelor's degree from Dickinson College, a master's in executive leadership from Georgetown University, and a master's in education policy and leadership from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is currently pursuing her doctorate at Howard University.
