Toni Minor joined the Master Educator program with over 8 years of experience shaping and molding the Special Education population in the District of Columbia. Serving our students in a primarily Charter school setting, Toni’s experience extends beyond the scope of Special Education where she actively used the arts to increase student performance and engagement. By incorporating her creative spirit, Toni has shown great success motivating students through drama and the fine arts. Toni's unique technique involved stimulating her students' love of learning through their interests and their multiple intelligences.
Working as a Lead Special Education teacher in an Inclusion setting, Toni has taught English, Math, Social Studies and Science in 5th through 8th grade. In addition to providing instruction, Toni was the case manager and also served to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans for her students. This allowed her to develop lasting and impactful relationships with the families of students on her caseload. Toni's leadership and organizational skills have been utilized throughout her career through her successful committee work in the schools and community.
Toni earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After working as a group leader and teacher with adults and teenage parents in the Chicago Public School system, Toni relocated to Washington, D.C. to attend Howard University, where she received a Master of Education in Special Education. Toni's successful experience and passion for excellence resulted in strengthening her instructional practice. However, an intense passion for the arts compelled Toni to return to graduate school where she earned a Master of Arts in History of Decorative Arts from Smithsonian-George Mason University.
