“I want to see my dream come true, so that’s why I decided to come to school,” says Fatiya Sadu, a student at Roosevelt STAY High School. During her time at Roosevelt STAY, Fatiya Sadu attended school in the morning and then worked at a part-time job after class, often working until midnight. Despite the long hours, Fatiya says that she was motivated to continue her studies at Roosevelt STAY and earn her high school diploma to pursue her dream of enrolling in college and becoming a nurse. This fall, that dream will become a reality. Fatiya has received a full scholarship to attend the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) where she will study nursing. She says that she is proud to pursue a career in nursing and to have the opportunity to save lives. “The best part of nursing is helping people,” says Fatiya. In addition to going through the college application process herself, Fatiya has worked with other Roosevelt STAY students to help them understand the value of taking the next step in their education and supporting them through the application and FAFSA process. Looking back on her high school experience, Fatiya says that she wants to encourage others who face challenges to complete their high school diploma. “Don’t lose hope. Don’t give up.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
