
David Friebele is a Washington, DC area native with over a decade of experience in education. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in History and International Studies with a Minor in Spanish from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2001, he spent a semester abroad attending the University of Seville, Spain. After graduating college, he returned to the DC area and began his career in education in DCPS elementary schools. . As an AmeriCorps member through the Latin American Youth Center, he spent two years as a small group instructor in DCPS classrooms and supplied after school and summer programs to Latin American students in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.
Eager to become a lead teacher, he accepted a position at the Sacred Heart School where he taught Spanish, mathematics, and language arts to primarily English Language Learners and native Spanish speakers. He also served as the Middle School Team Lead for three years, facilitating professional learning community meetings and observations focused the implementation of strategies for English Language learners. In 2009, David accepted a teaching position with Center City Public Charter Schools where he taught middle school mathematics and social studies.
While teaching in 2010, David’s action research project, “Achievement in Problem Solving” was published by the Education Research Information Center. Shortly after, he received his Masters Degree in the Art of Teaching with a focus on Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment from Marygrove College. He was soon promoted to Instructional Coach. As an Instructional Coach, he facilitated professional development sessions on culture and climate, responsive classroom, community building, and data analysis. He also assessed teacher performance and coached teachers on how to improve instructional practice. In the summer of 2013, David served as Lead of Curriculum Development for the Middle School Social Studies cohort of Center City Public Charter Schools. He also served as reading and math specialist before joining the Master Educator Team overseeing the Response to Intervention Process and intervention program for English Language Learners.
As a bilingual educator, David is passionate about supplying language learners with access to the best education possible. He will be serving as Master Educator for dual language, language acquisition, and world languages.
