Summer School Teacher (K through 7) Position Overview

The Teacher, Summer School / K through 7 position is located in the elementary public schools and education campuses that have been selected to host the Summer School Program within the District of Columbia Public Schools system. Under the direction of the Summer School Principal, the Teacher, Summer School / K through 7 plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students.  The Incumbent is responsible for providing an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of every student.  The Incumbent is expected to review and select text and supplemental materials appropriate to the grade level and specific subject matter which moves students towards mastery of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) targeted for the summer by the Office of Teaching and Learning (OTL).  The Incumbent will design or modify teacher guides and activity materials and encourage the integration of various blended learning materials and supplementary reading intervention programs, in an effort to challenge students and provide differentiated learning experiences for ELA and Math during the Summer School Program.

The Teacher, Summer School / K through 7 will work five and a half hours per day (8 am – 1:30 pm), five days per week for a total of 27.5 hours per week. The Teacher, Summer School / K through 7 reports to the Principal, Summer School.
