The Teacher, Summer School / Student Promotion and Retention for Grade 3 position is located in the elementary public
schools that have been selected to host the Student Promotion and Retention program within the District of Columbia
Public Schools system.
Under the direction of the Student Promotion and Retention Principal, the Teacher, Summer School/ Student Promotion
and Retention for Grade 3 plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students who are in danger of
retention. The Incumbent is responsible for providing an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual,
physical, social and emotional development of every student. The Incumbent is expected to review and select text and
supplemental materials appropriate to the grade level and specific subject matter which moves students towards
mastery of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) targeted for the summer by the Office of Teaching and Learning
(OTL). The Incumbent will design or modify teacher guides and activity materials and encourage the integration of
various blended/hybrid learning materials and supplementary reading intervention programs, in an effort to challenge
students and provide differentiated learning experiences for ELA and Math during the Student Promotion and Retention
program.
The Teacher, Summer School/Student Promotion and Retention for Grade 3 will work five hours per day (8 am –
1 pm), five days per week for a total of 25.0 hours per week.
The Teacher, Summer School/Student Promotion and Retention 3rd Grade reports to the Principal, Student Promotion
and Retention.
