We The Girls: Young Women’s Leadership Conference

We The Girls: Young Women’s Leadership Conference and Pep Rally - Saturday, June 1, 2019

DCPS’ Reign: Empowering Young Women as Leaders initiative will host the 3rd Annual We the Girls Leadership Conference on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Eastern Senior High School (located at 1700 East Capitol Street NE). The day will consist of interactive, educational, and fun activities centered in the three focus areas of identity, leadership, and health and wellness. This year’s keynote address will be given by Glory Edim, author of Well-Read Black Girl: Finding Our Stories, Discovering Ourselves.

Student workshops will cover topics of self-identity, social advocacy, yoga and mindfulness, STEM, the DCPS dress code, college readiness, and much more. Educators will have the option to attend workshops centered on gender equity and supports. There will also be workshops where parents will have the opportunity to engage with other parents and DCPS Central Office staff about the needs of young women of color and how DCPS can better support their development.

Registration will open on Monday, April 22 and close on Friday, May 24. To register for the We the Girls Leadership Conference, visit bit.ly/WTGConference2019. DCPS students under the age of 18 must have a permission slip completed and signed by a parent/guardian, and submitted during check-in at the conference.
