Wilson High School senior Sam Masling is a nationwide champion in competitive Scrabble. He’s also been one of the Opinion Editors for The Wilson Beacon, the school’s student newspaper, and captain of the Ultimate Frisbee Team. He decided that he wanted to go to Stanford University when he was five years old because his dad told him that “Stanford could make atoms collide.” He’s not sure what he wants to study just yet, but it will probably involve math, and he’s excited to “take interesting classes that are more specific” to his interests. “The community and style of learning is different in college,” Sam says. “People are excited about the material because they want to learn.” He wants people to know that they shouldn’t believe stereotypes about Wilson: “It’s a big place and no matter what you hear, there will always be different groups in Wilson. Everybody here is aiming for success.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
