Dr. Kym Sturdivant brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to addressing educational inequities and fostering a supportive and connected school environment. Since starting his teaching career in 2006, Dr. Sturdivant has been driven by a passion for education and a desire to create more student opportunities. He has taken on leadership roles to advocate for change and increase access to rigorous coursework for all students.
Understanding the importance of involving all stakeholders in the education process, Dr. Sturdivant actively engages with parents and community members to address their concerns, gather input, and build partnerships that benefit students. Dr. Sturdivant believes involving the broader community creates a sense of shared responsibility and commitment to the success of every student. He has fostered a sense of belonging and support within his school communities through open communication, collaboration, and understanding.
Dr. Sturdivant has served students in several capacities. He started as a mathematics teacher and became a content specialist in mathematics for Montgomery County Public Schools. He also served as a Principal in Residence (PIR) at Idea Public Schools in Texas and, most recently, as the high school principal at Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools in Northeast DC.
Dr. Sturdivant holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance & Economics from Westfield State College, a Master of Business Administration from the Keller Graduate School of Management, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology, Cognition, and Instruction from Grand Canyon University.
