Maury Elementary School
Having served as a teacher, teacher leader, and assistant principal over the course of her educational career, Ms. Leah Hassler was most recently a Resident Principal at Friendship Public Schools. She joins DCPS with experience supporting staff and leaders in creating a rigorous academic environment for students.
Ms. Hassler is deeply committed to equitable and student-centered leadership and is driven by the steadfast belief that all students can learn. A crucial element of her work is ensuring schools center the voices of students and families. Her leadership philosophy is rooted in the idea that for schools to excel, there must be a demonstrated commitment to instructional excellence and meaningful partnerships with all school stakeholders. She has embodied this commitment throughout her career as an educator and is well-prepared to leverage this experience as Maury’s principal.
Ms. Hassler holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Furman University and a master’s degree in school leadership from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
