Katherine Girón

Principal, Cleveland Elementary School

Ms. Girón brings over 19 years of experience in education. She joined DCPS in 2007 as a middle school life and physical sciences teacher at Columbia Heights Education Campus (CHEC). Over the course of her career, she has also held positions as an instructional coach and assistant principal at Alice Deal Middle School.  

For the past nine years, Ms. Girón has served as the assistant principal of Marie Reed Elementary School in Ward 1. During her tenure at Marie Reed, she has been instrumental in advancing strong academic growth, including achieving double-digit gains in mathematics proficiency on the District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessment of Progress in Education (DC CAPE). She brings a steadfast commitment to instructional leadership, innovation, and ensuring equitable outcomes for every student. 

Ms. Girón holds a bachelor’s in physiology and neurobiology, with a minor in Spanish languages and cultures from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also holds a Master of Arts in Education from American University and a post-graduate certification in school administration and supervision Johns Hopkins University. She has also participated in Georgetown University’s Leadership and Innovation Program for Aspiring Principals.
