For the past few years, Sally Yu has been managing two part-time jobs in addition to her rigorous course work at Banneker High School. She also took college courses at Catholic University during her senior year through the DCPS Dual Enrollment Program, which helped her decide that she wanted to double major in marketing and economics at the University of Maryland, College Park next year. “When I was younger, I wanted to do fashion. But after working and talking to my boss, I want to do business and travel now.” She says that Banneker has helped prepare her for college because she’s had to manage so much work at once, and her favorite memory was when President Barack Obama came to visit her school because it was cool “getting to see all the security and men in suits.” She’s looking forward to meeting new people in college, but she’s not there just yet: “I did an internship last summer at a company that helps low-income families, and I’m going back this summer for a paid position!” #DCPSGoesToCollege
