Principal Gray brings over 30 years of experience in education and joined DCPS in 2013 as an English Language Arts instructional coach. Over the course of her career, she has held positions as a teacher, professional development writer and trainer, and manager of elementary literacy curriculum.
For the past seven years, Principal Gray has served as the principal of LaSalle-Backus Elementary School in Ward 4, where she first started as an assistant principal 10 years ago. At LaSalle, she launched the district’s first schoolwide computer science elementary education program. She believes in fostering a school community grounded in trust, respect, integrity, and excellence, where students and staff can learn and grow together.
Principal Gray holds a bachelor’s in elementary education from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a master’s degree in education, curriculum, and instructional technology from the University of Maryland Global Campus (formerly University of Maryland, University College). She has also participated in the DCPS Leadership and Innovation Program in partnership with Georgetown University. In addition, Principal Gray is a member of the inaugural cohort of the Cahn Fellowship for Distinguished Principals and serves as the Distinguished Principals Alumni Advisor for DCPS.
