Anacostia High School senior Jewel Cauley is ready to go to college. “I’m excited to meet and interact with new people, and to get the college experience.” Outside of class, Jewel keeps busy as a member of the National Honor Society, the captain of the cheerleading team, and a tutor at both Orr and Ketcham Elementary Schools. When reflecting on her time at Anacostia, Jewel says that her high school defies assumptions. “This is a good school, it’ll prepare you for college, and the students are willing to learn.” She plans to be a nursing major at North Carolina A&T next year because she “likes giving people a helping hand,” and she credits Anacostia with preparing her for this exciting next chapter. “My AP classes have prepared me because that’s the kind of workload we’re going to get in college. I have to balance everything – class, work, cheer practice, homework – so I make sure I’m on top of my A game.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
