Cardozo Education Campus graduating senior Eden Amare has wanted to be a cardiologist since she was young, so she plans to major in medical engineering and minor in math next year at UDC. “I want to help people,” she says, reflecting on her family’s experience in both the U.S. and in Ethiopia. But Eden didn’t wait until college to start helping others – in addition to playing soccer and running track at Cardozo, she has also volunteered in the gardening and recycling clubs, and mentored young women at Cardozo’s middle school. She has enjoyed taking advantage of the opportunities at Cardozo, including studying abroad in the Dominican Republic last summer through the DCPS Study Abroad program, but she’s also looking forward to the college experience. “I’m excited to get a different perspective, get out of my comfort zone, and be independent. Plus I’ll get to meet different kinds of people.” Her best advice for her younger classmates? “Believe in yourself. Be comfortable with what you think, and don’t let other people make decisions for you.” #DCPSGoesToCollege
