Wheatley Education Campus
In 2006, Ms. Amanda Schmitt began her educational career as an instructional support teacher in Rochester, New York, before transitioning to teaching social studies for the next four years. In August 2011, Ms. Schmitt moved to Washington, DC and held several roles within Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools, including as an instructional lead, instructional coach, and assistant principal.
Ms. Schmitt joined DCPS in 2018 as Assistant Principal at H.D. Woodson High School. She built strong relationships with students and implemented data-driven systems, leading to vast improvements in Woodson's graduation rate and double-digit gains in English Language Arts (ELA) PARCC scores. Ms. Schmitt was a Rigorous Instruction Supports Equity (RISE) Principal at MacFarland Middle School this past school year before being named Interim Principal of Wheatley EC in March of 2023.
Ms. Schmitt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from SUNY Geneseo and a Master of Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University.
