Dr. Gary Hamilton holds a firm belief when children are emotionally safe and comfortable, their learning soars. Dr. Hamilton is a native of Dallas, Texas, but has lived in Washington, DC, for almost two decades. He received a Doctor of Education from American University in Educational Policy and Leadership, with a concentration in Early Literacy Intervention. As an educator in DCPS for the past 19 years, he has served in various capacities, including instructional coach for Teach for America, instructional coach for DCPS, District Course Facilitator, mentor teacher for Urban Teaching Fellows, and Site Leader for the DCPS Summer Acceleration Academy, among others.
For almost two decades, Dr. Hamilton has centered his work as an educator around improving the capacity of children in economically disadvantaged spaces. Anti-racist philosophies, community partnerships, family engagement, and student leadership are key components of his equity work.
