Yara Tanner is the Interim Chief of Employee Services for DC Public Schools (DCPS), where she leads Human Resources Operations, HR Data Systems, Instructional Talent Acquisition and Retention, Staffing, and Employee Experience for the district. Guided by a deep commitment to education and student success, she plays a critical role in strengthening DCPS’s workforce and organizational effectiveness.

With 18 years of human resources experience, 11 of which have been with DCPS, Yara brings extensive expertise in HR service delivery, workforce planning, and employee experience. She is widely respected for her ability to build strong relationships with educators, understand their unique needs, and deliver responsive, tailored HR support that enhances the employee experience across the district.

Yara’s work focuses on building transparent, data-driven HR systems that are responsive to the evolving needs of staff, ensuring processes are efficient, equitable, and centered on improving the employee experience.

Yara holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami, a Master of Administration from Trinity Washington University, and a DC Government Human Resources Certificate.
