
Dr. Yiesha L. Thompson is a seasoned public sector leader with extensive experience in educational administration, policy development, strategic planning, and operational management. Throughout her tenure with DC Public Schools (DCPS), she has held several positions focused on advancing organizational effectiveness, strengthening compliance, and improving outcomes for students and families.
Dr. Thompson joined DCPS as a Senior Grants Manager and Program Specialist, where she oversaw federal funding initiatives, enhanced grant compliance processes, and developed innovative programming to support at-risk student populations. She later served as Director of Monitoring and Program Support, providing leadership in accountability, program oversight, and continuous improvement efforts across the district. Prior to her current role, Dr. Thompson served as Chief of Staff to the Deputy Chancellor of Finance and Operations, supporting one of the largest divisions and helping coordinate strategy, operations, finance, integrity, data, and technology functions to ensure schools have the resources and systems necessary to serve students effectively.
Dr. Thompson is passionate about leveraging policy, data, and cross-functional collaboration to drive organizational excellence and equitable educational opportunities. Her work has centered on building systems that improve operational efficiency, strengthen governance, and support student success.
She holds a Bachelor of Science from San José State University, a Master of Public Administration from Howard University, a Master of Jurisprudence in Child Law and Policy from Loyola University Chicago, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Public Policy and International Relations from Howard University.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Thompson enjoys swimming, reading, and traveling, and remains committed to lifelong learning and service to her community.
