All current and fully-certified DCPS Health and Physical Education teachers are eligible to apply. Previous PEEL fellows are not eligible to apply.

Selection Timeline

• Applications are anonymously reviewed by a panel 

A complete application includes:

The application includes your response to three essay questions (Responses should be no more than 250 words).

2. Resume

Send a professional resume in Microsoft Word or PDF format.

3. Principal Certification Form

All applicants must respond to this item:

• Why are you interested in becoming a PEEL Fellow?  What do you hope to gain from your participation? What do you feel you have to offer to the program? What interventions and curricula do you use and what formative and summative assessments are currently in place to gauge student progress?

Applicants should respond to two of the following items.

• One of the goals of DCPS’ Capital Commitment is to improve student satisfaction and to have 90% of students say that they like their school. Health and Physical education plays an important role in meeting this goal. What steps do you take to ensure that all students enjoy physical education, and that students at all levels participate?
• What are some ways to incorporate physical activity throughout the school day to encourage children to become more physically active outside of physical education class? How do you currently implement or encourage these ideas?
• Your principal asks you to explain the importance of your physical education program. You have just a few minutes to explain to the staff why your program is important, why it should be expanded, and what you plan to do to expand the program. What are the key points in your presentation?
