District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor Kaya Henderson issued the following statement on Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s announcement of Abigail Smith as the new Deputy Mayor for Education.

“I am excited to work with Abby Smith as we continue to improve the quality of education for the students in our city.  Abby's deep knowledge and experience in both traditional DCPS schools and in DC Charter schools makes her especially qualified to help us improve collaboration and coordination to ensure that we really are one city where every student can succeed and achieve at the highest levels.”
