Mayor Bowser to Celebrate New Addition at Barnard Elementary School in Ward 4

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, August 26 at 11:30 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser, the DC Department of General Services (DGS), and DC Public Schools (DCPS) leaders will cut the ribbon on the new $23 million addition at Barnard Elementary School in Ward 4. The 23,000-square-foot addition includes general education classrooms, a hands-on Specials Lab, dedicated special education spaces, and sustainability features such as a green roof and new play fields.

The project reflects Mayor Bowser’s ongoing commitment to delivering modern, high-quality learning environments across all eight wards. Since 2015, the District has invested nearly $5 billion in school facilities, including nearly $800 million in Ward 4 school modernization projects.
