(Washington, DC) – On Monday, February 13 at 11 am, Mayor Muriel Bowser will highlight the District’s Cupid’s Kids Initiative by delivering Valentine’s Day cards to homebound DC seniors who also receive home-delivered meals. Led by DC Office of Aging (DCOA), each Valentine’s Day card was created by the District of Columbia Public School (DCPS) students. The initial goal was to create 2,000 cards; however, due to an overwhelming response of commitment from DCPS, DCOA surpassed this goal and delivered over 4,000 cards. The purpose of the Cupid’s Kids Initiative is to demonstrate the importance of the District’s youngest residents contributing to the community and spreading kindness to isolated and homebound District seniors.
DCOA collaborated with eight District public schools: Aiton Elementary; Beers Elementary; Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan; Garfield Elementary; Hearst Elementary; Hendley Elementary; Ross Elementary; Takoma Education Campus; and Tubman Elementary to create original Valentine’s Day cards.
