Statement from DCPS Chancellor Kaya Henderson on the passing of DC Fire and EMS Lt. Kevin McRae

Wednesday, May 6, 2015

(Washington, DC) - District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor Kaya Henderson issued the following statement on the passing of Lt. Kevin McRae, 24-year veteran of DC Fire and EMS and a member of Engine Company 6.

On behalf of Dunbar High School and the entire DC Public Schools community, we are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of DC Fire and EMS Lt. Kevin McRae – a dedicated firefighter and father of a Dunbar HS senior. Lt. McRae and his fellow firefighters with Engine Company 6 offered Dunbar students a standing invitation to the fire station to talk and learn more about their profession. Today, a group of Dunbar HS students, many of them classmates of Lt. McRae’s son, walked to Engine Company 6 with Dunbar HS Principal Stephen Jackson to pay their respects to Lt. McRae. We offer our prayers and our deepest condolences to his family, and we stand with the Dunbar community and DC Fire and EMS.
