Compensation

DCPS values its school leaders and works to make sure principals and assistant principals are appropriately compensated. The salaries at DCPS are comparable to surrounding districts and are based on education and experience.

Salary is based on years of experience, school level, and school size. The links below represent a guide for determining compensation for new principals and assistant principals.

Principals and assistant principals are employees of the District of Columbia and are members of the Council of School Officers union. As such, school leaders receive a comprehensive benefits package. All full-time staff members are entitled to the following benefits:
