DCPS Fingerprinting (Background Check) and ID Badge Processes and Requirements

All current and prospective DCPS employees, volunteers, and contractors must complete a criminal background check before providing services to any DCPS student, school, or office.

Please review the guidance below to complete this mandatory process. Please note, there is no cost associated with obtaining a background check.

Current DCPS Clearance Process due to COVID-19 Pandemic

DCPS continues to require that all employees, volunteers, and contractors complete the fingerprinting (criminal background check) process before providing services. While the DCPS Clearance Office remains closed for the foreseeable future, we have partnered with FieldPrint to offer remote fingerprinting services.

Employee candidates will receive detailed guidance on scheduling and completing a FieldPrint appointment as part of the onboarding process. Current DCPS employees will receive guidance from Employee Services via email in June 2020.

Volunteers and contractors will receive guidance from their program offices.

As DCPS-specific appointment codes must be used to complete this process appropriately, individuals may not schedule a FieldPrint appointment outside of the formal guidance issued through the channels outlined above.

In advance of a scheduled FieldPrint appointment, all individuals must complete the DCPS Employment Clearance Application. Failure to submit this application will prevent the DCPS Clearance team to process fingerprinting results or issue clearance compliance.

Volunteers, contractors, and Students Teachers must also complete additional action steps, including obtaining and providing cleared TB test results. Please review the relevant sections below for this guidance.

Volunteer Clearance

  1. Confirm a placement. If you do not have a placement, please use the school profiles to reach out to a local school to discuss your interest in volunteering. If you would like to volunteer with an established partner, view the list of programs vetted by the Office of Out-of-School Time Programs.
  2. Submit a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test result to the DCPS Clearance team at [email protected]. We accept skin and blood tests taken within the last one year, or chest x-rays taken within the last five years. You must complete your TB test and provide results in advance of your FieldPrint appointment.

Student Teacher Clearance

  1. Confirm a placement. The Student Teacher placement process is managed between your university program and the DC Public School (DCPS) directly, as Human Resources does not have a placement process or mandate for student teachers. We encourage you to use the school directory, available on our main website, to reach out to particular schools that you would like to host you as student teacher. You can view the school directory here.
  2. Submit a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test result to the DCPS Clearance team at [email protected]. We accept skin and blood tests taken within the last one year, or chest x-rays taken within the last five years. You must complete your TB test and provide results in advance of your FieldPrint appointment.

Contractor Clearance

  1. Confirm school location(s) with your employing contracting company/agency.
  2. Submit a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test result to the DCPS Clearance team at [email protected]. We accept skin and blood tests taken within the last one year, or chest x-rays taken within the last five years. You must complete your TB test and provide results in advance of your FieldPrint appointment.

ID Badges

DCPS is not currently issuing ID badges to any individuals while our office remains closed. Once this service has resumed, we will notify individuals accordingly.
