Brandon Irwin joined the master educator program in 2012 after seven years teaching middle school art for Manassas City Public Schools.
Brandon’s experiences include teaching a full spectrum of art media, graphic arts, as well as directing the gifted and talented art program. He also has experience teaching ELA and math to groups of at-risk youth, many of whom are English language learners.
In addition to teaching, Brandon has a track record of innovative school and community leadership. He has served as a teacher mentor, department chair, member of Manassas City Public Schools fine arts committee, and as an assessor for National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. He has also supported teachers and students in schools across Southern Africa.
Brandon founded Kharisma, a charitable art organization for secondary students that educates members about major global issues such as poverty, water insecurity, and human trafficking, as well as creative efforts to affect change. Contributing much of his own pottery, Brandon has led student art sales enabling the construction of seven houses in Kaboola Village, Malawi, Africa, and aiding the production of water filters in Central America.
Manassas City Public Schools has honored Brandon as an outstanding first year teacher nominee and with the Apple Award for teaching excellence. In addition, he is a recipient of EnVest Foundation’s “40 under 40” Award in recognition of his philanthropic and professional contributions in the National Capital Region.
Brandon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from Evangel University and a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies in Painting and Ceramics from Virginia Commonwealth University.
