Latest Updates

On May 29, we shared with families that term 4 report cards will be mailed home in June to all students. However, there is a change to that schedule. Report cards for students in Elementary Schools will be mailed this month as planned, but students who attend an Education Campus, Middle School, or High School will receive their report card in the mail around July 6. This is due to updates being made to secondary student records in Aspen.

During the COVID-19 emergency in SY19-20, we recognize there were periods when students could not participate in learning at home, and a student’s academic status should not be adversely impacted because of the pandemic.

In response to our Term 4 Grading guidance, DPCS has determined that all grades of “No Mark” in Term 4 will be replaced with an “HE” (Health Emergency) grade. This means that final grades for students in middle or high schools will now be calculated based on term 1-3 grades for full year courses and based on term 3 for half-year courses. Secondary students who have a failing (F) average for term 1-3 (or term 3 for half year courses) will receive a grade of “I” and have until January 2021 to resolve that mark. Summer school enrollment is encouraged, and students should contact their school to learn more.

School Calendar Changes

DCPS has released the academic calendar for School Year 2020-2021. For SY20-21, the first day of school for students is Monday, August 31, 2020, and the last day of school for students is Thursday, June 24, 2021.

Summer Bridge

July 16 update: Summer Bridge registration is now closed, and all programming will fully take place online in a virtual learning setting.

Summer Bridge is an opportunity for students entering 3rd, 6th, and 9th grades to support relationship building through academic and social-emotional learning activities. Participation in Summer Bridge will support students as they transition to a new grade level or school building.

Summer Bridge will take place online for each of our schools for two weeks. The dates and times are:

  • Monday, August 10 to Thursday, August 13 from 9 am to 12:30 pm.
  • Monday, August 17 to Thursday, August 20 from 9 am to 12:30 pm.

Students may visit a neighborhood meal site to receive a free lunch during the day. Locations are open from 10 am to 2 pm and a full list is available here.

DCPS will work with families to ensure students in Summer Bridge have the technology necessary to participate while learning online. More information will be shared directly with students who have registered for the program. We are looking forward to seeing all registered students on August 10th!

Meals

Meals will be available for all students every weekday at locations throughout the city. For more information, visit coronavirus.dc.gov/food. Meal service times may vary.

Distance Learning

Learning at home has concluded for the 2019-2020 school year but instructional materials remain available at bit.ly/DCPS_ICP. Visit Canvas to learn more about DCPS' Summer Learning for All initiative that provides students in all grades — Pre-K through 12th — with enrichment opportunities that can be completed safely from home!

Enrollment for School Year 2020-2021 is now open. Access the electronic enrollment form here
